Paediatric First Aid 

Who is this course aimed at:

A Paediatric First Aid course is aimed predominantly at schools and business's working with children governed by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) or OFSTED. It focus' only on Paediatric first aid. Whilst not a required pre-requisite holding a first aid at work certificate is something we advise, remember that where there are children there will be adults to. 

This course meets the statutory requirements of the department of education. The course's awarding body is First Aid Awards (FAA). It is regulated by OFQUAL and is SQA accredited. The qualification sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).

What this course will cover:

• Role of the Paediatric First Aider 

• Seizure 

• Diabetic emergencies 

• Primary survey 

• Choking 

• Asthma 

• Resuscitation (CPR including the safe use of an AED) •

• Minor injuries 

• Meningitis 

• Wounds, bleeding and shock 

• Recovery position 

• Febrile convulsions 

• Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis 

• Fractures  

• Extreme cold and heat  

• Head, neck and back injuries 

• Foreign bodies 

• Electrical incidents 

Course length:

2 days or 15 hours (12 hour contact time, 3 hours pre-learning) of learning. Candidates must be present for all the training hours without exception.

Certification:

This qualification lasts for 3 years. To renew the qualification, learners will need to resit the full course. However, it is recommended that during the 3-year period, the learners attend annual refresher courses.

Assessment:

Assessment is ongoing by the instructor in respect of the student’s practical skills and there will be multiple choice question paper to answer in respect of their knowledge.

Course size:

A maximum of 12 students are allowed and must be a minimum of 16 years of age.  A  certificate will be offered to all, subject to assessment.
